Registering for a 1st aid course can be a confusing process. Candidates have the option of selecting from a variety of different first aid and CPR courses. The following is a list of all of the available basic 1st aid and CPR courses available to candidates in Canada.

Standard first aid and CPR level “C” for health care providers (CPR “HCP”) and AED
- Standard first aid and CPR level “C” and AED
- Standard first aid and CPR level “A” and AED
- Standard child care first aid and CPR level “B” and AED (exclusively operated through St Mark James training providers)
- Emergency child care first aid and CPR level “B” and AED (exclusively operated through St Mark James training providers)
- Emergency first aid and CPR level “A” and AED
- Emergency first aid and CPR level “C” and AED
- Stand-alone CPR level “A” and AED
- Stand-alone CPR level “C” and AED
- Stand-alone CPR level “C” for health care providers (CPR “HCP”) and AED
Major 1st Aid and CPR Providers in Canada
All of the previously mentioned courses, except for child care 1st aid courses, are offered through all four of the major first aid and CPR providers in Canada. The major providers include:
- St. Johns Ambulance
- St Mark James
- The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada
- The Canadian Lifesaving Society
St Mark James 1st Aid Certification
These providers provide candidates with certificates and awards that meet many government legislative standards and are valid for 3 years. All providers offer certificates that are of the same value. No provider’s certificate holds a higher level if the course is of the equivalent name.
