Standard First Aid & CPR Training (Level C or Higher)
Standard First Aid is one of the most in-demand first aid and CPR courses in Canada. Itโs the most comprehensive option among the basic training courses and is offered by all major providers across the country.
By default, this course includes CPR Level C, which covers adult, child, and infant resuscitation. Many training providers also offer the option to upgrade to a higher level of CPR, such as CPR Level HCP. In addition, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training is included as a standard part of the course.
What Youโll Learn in Standard First Aid
Participants will gain the knowledge and confidence to respond to a wide range of emergencies. The course covers both CPR and essential first aid topics, including:

CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants

Managing choking emergencies (conscious and unconscious)

Individuals that enroll in standard first aid training will learn to manage a variety of injuries. Respiratory emergencies: asthma, anaphylaxis, aspiration, and hyperventilation

Cardiac and circulatory issues: heart attack, angina, stroke, and TIA

Severe and internal bleeding

Fractures, broken bones, sprains, and strains

Environmental emergencies: heat stroke, heat exhaustion, frostbite, hypothermia, etc.

Head, neck, and spinal injuries

Seizures and seizure response

Diabetic emergencies (hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia)

Puncture wounds and embedded objects

Poisoning (ingestion, inhalation, absorption)

Certification Details
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a St. Mark James Standard First Aid & CPR certificate, valid for 3 years. This certification meets provincial and federal occupational health and safety requirements and is recognized nationwide.
Re-certification courses are available for those who wish to renew their certification before it expires. While not all providers offer re-certification, St. Mark James is a leading provider in both course availability and instructional quality.
Course Duration
The course typically runs between 14 to 20 hours, depending on the training provider, location, and instructor format (e.g., in-person vs. blended learning).
Course Fees
Pricing varies by region and provider, with course fees generally ranging from $125 to $185. This includes training in Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED.
